This website documents the 40+ American Revolutionary War soldiers and patriots buried in Iowa. Each individual has a dedicated webpage that shares what is currently known about their life, military service, and burial location information. These pages are designed to help you learn more about the people behind the names and to connect local places to our nation’s founding history.
There are several ways to access the individual patriot pages:
Browse by Name
You can view a complete list of all patriots by clicking on their name under the Patriots tab. Selecting a name will take you directly to that individual’s page, where you will find information such as birthplace, Revolutionary War service, death details, and cemetery location.
Use the Interactive Map
The Map tab allows you to explore patriot burial sites across Iowa. Clicking on a cemetery marker will identify the patriot(s) buried there. Latitude and longitude coordinates are included for those who wish to visit these sites in person.
Additional Resources
The Additional Resources tab includes a comprehensive list of all documented patriots along with cemetery details and location information. This section is especially helpful for researchers, educators, and those planning cemetery visits.
Each patriot page represents ongoing research. Some entries include photographs of gravesites, while others may contain limited information due to incomplete historical records. As new documentation becomes available, pages will be updated to reflect additional information.
Together, these pages tell the story of how Revolutionary War service extended far beyond the original thirteen colonies and how Iowa became the final resting place for members of America’s founding generation.
