Volunteered July 1, 1782 while living in Surry County, North Carolina, served under Colonel Cox and Captain Mat. Moore. He later was placed under the command of Captain Godfrey Isaacks in regiment of Colonel Benjamin Cleveland, in Wilkes County, North Carolina. His years of service were spent mostly in searching the area for British and Tories.
