Enlisted at Basking Ridge, Somerset County, New Jersey in the spring of 1776 or 1777 and served under Lieutenant Seeley in Captain Yelles/Giles Mead's Company, commanded by Colonel Mathias Ogden. Brees took park in the Battle of Monmouth and served with General Sullivan in his route through Indian country. He was transferred to the New Jersey Light Infantry under Captain John Howell on August 1, 1782 and was discharged in 1783 at New Windsor, New York. Timonthy Brees made application for a pension in May 1818, and it was granted.
