Daniel entered service in Washington County, Pennsylvania as an Indian spy under Captain Reason Virgin in the spring of 1781. Then enlisted as a private under Captain Charles Craycraft and was stationed at Atkinson Fort, Pennsylvania. In March 1783, he enlisted again as a private under Captain Blakeney in Washington County. Daniel came to Iowa in 1833.

There is no burial location information for Daniel Bean, but possibly south of Burlington, Iowa, in Concordia or Union Township, Chandler or Spring Grove Cemetery.
