Enlisted as a private in the Continental Army on February 1, 1776 in Colonel Alexander McClanahan's and Captain Henry Young's Virginia troops. He again enlisted in 1777 in the 7th Virginia Regiment of Kingston Parish and served. under officers Charles Tompkins, Reuben Lipscomb and others. He took part in engagements in September at Brandywine and October at Germantown in the year of 1777, and wintered at Valley Forge with the troops of General Washington. From 1778 to 1782 he served under Captain Billups, Colonel Payton and in Page's Militia. He applied for a pension on August 13, 1832 while a resident of Kingston Parish, Matthews County, VA.
